Re: What are your holiday season woes?

Every year for the past few years I've thought this and it hasn't happened, but then again every year she's in worse shape; this might be my last Christmas with my mom. She's still drinking herself to death and is on a bunch of meds to slow down the brain damage that causes. She's being kicked out of the assisted living she went into the day before Thanksgiving because she won't stop drinking, so she's getting out on the 23rd. Every year she asks what I want for Christmas and birthdays and every year I ask her to stay sober. She was drunk on my birthday and in the hospital for her birthday, Halloween, and Thanksgiving this year. I just want a nice quiet Christmas day off where I cook and we eat and open presents and I don't have to call an ambulance or go with her to the hospital or clean up any bodily fluids and there's no fighting. But once she does die I will be down to two blood relatives, both of whom are 35+ years older than me, and only one of them lives in the same state as I do. I have no siblings or cousins or anything and not really any friends either. I haven't made a friend since grade school. I mean, I'm friendly acquaintences with people from school and coworkers but it's not the same.

Also I can't even hope things will get better next year because, well, Resident Chump exists. And short of winning the lotto I can't afford to leave the country and feel guilty for wanting to because so many more people stand to lose so much more than I do with the rich misogynistic racist creepazoid Russian finger-puppet and his matyroska-cabinet of hatemongers in charge.
