I wanted to write a thank you note to my lab instructor from this semester, and I was thinking of writing it in a Christmas card, but she is from India and most people from India tend to be Hindu or Muslim, so I thought "she probably doesn't celebrate Christmas and I want to be culturally sensitive," so I made her a chemistry themed card instead (with cross stitch in an open fronted card.) When I gave it to her she said "Oh, is it a Christmas card?" all super excited, and I was like "...well, I didn't know if you celebrated Christmas, so it's a chemistry card..." and she was still all happy and thanked me, but now I feel kind of dumb for just assuming she would prefer a non-Christmas card.
