I've been offered a chance to buy a place near Accous in France, which may help me escape the Brexit, but I know virtually nothing about the area other than it is in the Pyrenees. Does anyone on F!S know anything about it?

So you want to make yourself believe that you are ready to go to a different country (with a different culture, language etc.) when you refuse to even go to a website that could help you with that? Yeah, I think you should probably stay where you are.

Well I don't know for certain that that part of France is full of racist homophobes who actively encourage murder... Reddit on the other hand.

I don't think it's about Reddit so much as the jumping to conclusions about an entire group based on the worst of its members, especially considering plenty of people on Reddit dislike those people too. With that mindset, you'll always hate everyone so you might as well stay home, which is sad.

I have some news for you.

You should explore Reddit rather than go by what Tumblr tells you Reddit is.

OP, if you do this thing, you're going to have to face up to a mountain of difficult challenges, many of them cultural. If you can't bring yourself to visit a site for fear of encountering bigoted assholes on it, you are not ready to make this move. Stay wherever it is that is so safe, you never need worry about talking with douchebags, and maybe clue the rest of us in about the location of this utopia.

LOL, maybe they just want a better website to go to if they've heard bad things about reddit? Like maybe they don't think it will be helpful?

I mean, reddit would probably be fine. I'm not trying to argue that they're right about reddit. But so many people judging them on not wanting to use a particular website.... sheesh.

Yeah...you are not gonna have a good time moving to a whole another country.

I've been to two Romanian Reddit sites (people from Romania, Romanian speaking people, etc., not just Romanian citizens) and they were fine. Don't be so knee-jerky.

And you've only had your details phished three times, had gypsies try to steal you twice and contracted only mild vampirism.

You want to MOVE to a different country, but you aren't willing to check out a website that might help or give you information? Good luck with that.

Reddit is fine. It's a huge and widely varied site. Some subs are waaaaaay different from other subs.

I had to look it up and I went "my god it's the trou du cul du monde". If you don't already speak French and are not ready to master it before you buy, don't bother. People in remote parts do not look kindly to strangers butting in their old country.
And even if you do, prepare yourself to live like a caveman in the middle of sheep land with no convenience store for twenty or even fifty kilometers around on windy mountain roads.

The "ass hole of the world" does not, I admit, sound particularly welcoming. The bit about being stranded in the mountains does though. I could live with that. My French is a bit schoolgirl and rather rusty at that, all that la plume de ma tante est dans le jardin level stuff.

Also, how do you plan to support yourself? Are you offered a job opportunity as well as a house? Or do you expect to live on your teeny tiny bit of land only? If you have no source of income, you're fucked. France does not treat refugees that well at the moment, you know.

I work from home in the creative industry, so anywhere with a studio (or desk in front of a window) is fine for me.

I just looked up the 'Accous in France' thing and it said it was a commune, and the landscape, at least, was gorgeous. I mean - this view! The poey!

are you leaving because you want to stay in the european union or are you leaving because of ukip and the rise in racism etc? because if it's the latter, you might want to think about your choice of country, what with the crazy popularity of front national.

The former, definitely. The latter, well, at least if the racism is in French I won't notice it so much because I'll just skip translating it. I cannot avoid the kippers and their invective, with it being in my native tongue. I'd be happier if I could move somewhere they only spoke Latin, to tell the truth, but the Vatican's immigration policy is somewhat restrictive.
