There's a lot of solo musicians that were in bands that were big when I was in highschool. Regardless of how their styles have changed from what I listen to, I still buy their albums because they were such a big part of my teenage years.

I tend to support people I 'know' as well. Local music acts/writers/artists/ect. I don't really care if they're "good", if they come from my city and seem nice I'll spend the few bucks to see the same show a half dozen times or get a copy of a book. The arts are really looked down on where I live so I want to support those folks going against the grain.
