55) They aren't overrated. Their influence is huge and without them, we probably wouldn't have any of the music we have today. However, I do think that a lot of people who say the Beatles are their favorite band haven't listened to much other music. The Beatles seem like a band that's so huge and so immediately recognizable that people seem to just fall back on them when they don't have an actual favorite band or even a favorite genre. Of course, this by no means applies to everyone; I just got done taking a class filled with people like that, so I'm a little jaded. Grain of salt and all. (And for the record, I do like the Beatles, even if I still don't understand the whole "Paul is dead" thing considering he was right there the whole time.)

(Anonymous) 2008-04-29 05:13 am (UTC)(link)I just took a course on them too, and it made me really listen to their music, not just on the surface level, but harmonically and motivicly (which is so not a word, but whatever). It made me stop thinking about them as just like 'the Beatles' and actually as a band, and now I like their music so much more.
By the way, I love your icon. Music symbology jokes, FTW!
