1. Wordy McWord. I could hardly stomach the first one.

23. Forget whether it's good or bad. The important thing is that it does not work.

35. Yeah, okay.

LOL AND I'M SEEIN CAPITALISM WORKING SOOOOO WELL ALL UP IN HERE

Re: 23

[identity profile] windbell.livejournal.com 2008-04-30 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
At least capitalism is realistic and is actually applicable to most of today's societies. Capitalism realizes people's natural selfishness and that's what makes it work. Communism is an idealist system and doesn't account for the fact that people naturally think they are better than others. It is also extremely intolerant and not all that well-developed. Makes you wonder why communism is synonymous with totalitarian dictatorships, doesn't it? Haven't you read Animal Farm?

Take China, for example. China has its own style of communism, but its people have no rights, no freedom of religion. People disappear in the middle of the night, never to be heard from again. Political prisoners are murdered for their organs. And the only reason their economy is improving is because of its huge labor force, natural resources, space, aaaaaandd...lalala capitalist operations.

Furthermore, sarcastically pointing out to me that "capitalism works sooooo well" is kind of irrelevant in that it has nothing to do with what I said in the first place.

And yes, capitalism really does work. If you don't believe me, ask someone who lived in East Berlin before 1991. Or Russia. Or North Korea.

LOL so, uh, nice simplistic Western mindset.

For what it's worth, we're more socialist than capitalist nowadays.

LOL, such a blatant disgard of every point I made.

Re: 23

[identity profile] drworm.livejournal.com 2008-04-30 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. Because I used to spout them all myself. Then I got some perspective about why my worldview is not the only possible or correct one.

Re: 23

[identity profile] windbell.livejournal.com 2008-04-30 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, but, the thing is, I never said my world view is the only possible or correct one. I was merely defending myself because I felt I was being attacked.

Actually, I think my world view is that people suck, and nothing will ever be perfect. I wish I could be more idealistic, but I can't. Just wired that way, I suppose.

doesn't account for the fact that people naturally think they are better than others
Naturally? Like, this is hard-wired into the human brain instead of being a result of a system that rewards the already privileged?

Makes you wonder why communism is synonymous with totalitarian dictatorships, doesn't it?
Oh, yes, everyone in the world thinks that Communists are pretty much the same as Nazis. Nobody could ever be particularly biased because of decades of American propaganda or anything.

People disappear in the middle of the night, never to be heard from again.
This has never happened in America, ever. We're the greatest.

And the only reason their economy is improving is because of its huge labor force, natural resources, space, aaaaaandd...lalala capitalist operations.
And our even-more-capitalist society has an even better economy that's not rapidly going downhill or anything! We're the greatest!

Naturally? Like, this is hard-wired into the human brain instead of being a result of a system that rewards the already privileged?

Actually, it is. People want to believe they have worth. People want to believe they are worth more than other people are, as it makes them feel better about themselves and replaces their concern over their insecurities. That's why religion is so popular, of course. People are always happier when they're convinced others are going to hell. Yay schadenfreude!

Seriously, though, people don't do well in a society where everything is just given to them. If they do, the incentive to work is no longer there. The hardworking get the same as the lazy. Human beings are hard-wired with a survival of the fittest mentality, hence communism is so idealistic. Nice, but not feasible in reality.

I do not consider myself privileged, but I would definitely take a system where my hard work is rewarded over a system where my rights are worth nothing and where anything subversive is completely banned.

Oh, yes, everyone in the world thinks that Communists are pretty much the same as Nazis. Nobody could ever be particularly biased because of decades of American propaganda or anything.

It's pretty much common knowledge that a strong government is needed to keep any regime in place. And actually, I am more than capable of thinking for myself, which is why I'm taking the time to type all this out to you, even though you're not taking me seriously at all.

This has never happened in America, ever. We're the greatest.

Okay.

And our even-more-capitalist society has an even better economy that's not rapidly going downhill or anything! We're the greatest!

Uh-huh.

Putting words in my mouth is not making your views look better. >>

Nobody works hard under Communism?

even though you're not taking me seriously at all
I understand that you have strong views which are not the same as mine and which have merit, but this is not a place I come to have serious political discussions and I'm always a little thrown when people try it. Some day perhaps you and me will settle down in a Berlin cafe and talk of serious topics over coffee and vodka, but today is not that day.

Nobody works hard under Communism?

I didn't say that. I just meant that when the government guarantees you everything you need for survival and doesn't allow you certain freedoms, there's not much of a motivation to work harder than you have to.

I understand that you have strong views which are not the same as mine and which have merit, but this is not a place I come to have serious political discussions and I'm always a little thrown when people try it.

I don't even think I have really strong views -- I was just defending myself, really. But I'm fine with dropping it if you are.

Mmm, coffee and vodka. ♥
