Agreed. I would think if a fic was tagged like that it's more 'picture the actors you like acting out this scenario' than anything that plausibly relies on the character's personalities.

And you know, there's nothing wrong with wanting that. If I want to look at fanart of Hannibal in Sailor Moon's fuku I don't really need hoards of people springing out from under every rock and from behind every bush to scream that Hannibal in a fuku is wildly OOC and I should be looking at pictures of him in fashionable suits instead.

At the same time I understand how if you want one, the other ain't going to satisfy. If you want Spock acting tender and emotional with no mind control/flower pollen, alcoholic water/etc. then you're not going to have a good time with someone who writes him reserved and showing emotion in teenie subtle ways like in the show, and vice versa.
