i just wanted follow fanartists cuz everyone and their mom's leaving tumblr

god i miss when “don’t share any personal info online” was the norm

and don't give that bullshit excuse it's to prevent online harrassment, you just want the sweet dosh that comes with selling phone numbers and personal info

I agree with this. All my email accounts (and Facebook) keep asking for my phone number. And no, that makes me less safe, not more. You already have my password and username and email and other stuff. You don't need my phone number.

Eugh. I'm glad I don't like Twitter as a platform. I am not in the business of giving my phone number to people who do not need it. (Google keeps asking for it. No, Google, you cannot have it.)

More fanartists are moving from Tumblr to Twitter? That seems like a bad move. If they think Tumblr is not user friendly, how do they think Twitter will be better?

It doesn't seem impossible that Twitter could be less user unfriendly than Tumblr for those people

I am having a hard time understanding this sentence. I feel like it would make more sense spoken aloud with stress on certain words.

I guess what I'm saying is: just thinking about it quickly, it doesn't seem obviously true that Twitter is worse than Tumblr in terms of user friendliness

Really? I'd think so because of the sharing aspect. I don't use twitter often but when I go I get frustrated by how it handles pictures ESPECIALLY when linking them.

But, like, how good do we think sharing really is on Tumblr? Especially when you have to share through some insane tag where people are fighting about whether Nazis are pedophiles or whatever?

Twitter can at least do conversations - brief ones restricted by length, yeah, but still.

Probably the one without the new xkit, but yeah, even without that, you can do convos. But the tumblr hate is so huge on this site, they don't even bother with facts.

You can do convos, but there's no threading and you have to reblog stuff to comment on it. These are pretty obviously debilitating drawbacks.

I don't know why they think twitter will be better if that's the case.

I'm not sure it's true that it's just to sell phone numbers. Like, on a certain level, I'm not sure you can bitch about Twitter not doing enough about harassment for years and then assume they're lying when they try to do something about it.

Not saying it's the right thing to do but I don't think it's insincere. There are good reasons companies want to do things that way.

But there's an option to skip? I just signed up and hit the skip option and all was fine.

That used to be the case, but it's mandatory now.

Or at least for me and I don't use TOR, which apparently prompts it.

I literally just finished making a new account before coming to F!S and was able to skip that step. Been using it browsing and whatnots and have not been asked again.

Tumblr isn't even that big a user base, nobody is going to notice if a handful are migrating away.

maybe it's just the group i follow but some fanartists are since they're tired of/afraid of getting harassed or don't really care for the environment there
