Do you gaf?

[personal profile] supermanda 2016-12-28 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
I feel that lately, I really don't gaf about rules (not laws, but...things like don't wear socks with sandals). In a truly healthy way.

I haven't cared about that stuff for years. My anxiety used to be really bad and I worried about everything, but now I've kind of gone to the other extreme and my reaction to people thinking anything bad about me is a shrug or a laugh depending on the specifics. It's nice.

No. Shit like that irritates me so much. Especially fashion/style "rules" like what you mentioned, but basically anything where someone says you're "supposed to" do or not do a certain thing but can't give a reason as to why other than just "that's how it's done" or something along those lines.

If I'm not breaking any laws or hurting anyone, then leave me alone. I don't give a fuck about your stupid rules.

*give a fuck

No. I hear the word "should," and it's like the give-a-fuck switch automatically gets turned off in my brain.

Fashion rules are often really dumb and completely arbitrary, if someone is comfortable in something then they shouldn't really need to have to explain it to other people.

I would also respect fashion rules more if they took into account personal style and what a person looks good in on an individual level (regardless of if it's in season or not.) Fashion critique shows are a good way to just make me mad because women get criticized for being safe/out of season even though they look phenomenal.

I also can't wear certain clothes because of a skin condition which I hide so I've been beyond done with people who criticize clothing choices for years.

Your post reminds me why I dislike that What Not to Wear show so much. I've only seen it a handful of times, but in every episode I've seen, the women are all dressed the same after their "makeover". Before they wear stuff that their friends/family might not like, but they personally like their style. If my family or friends wrote into that show on my behalf I'd be so pissed.

I mean, obviously people have to dress a certain way for certain jobs, but outside of work, who cares if what someone's wearing isn't "in style" or "fashionable" or whatever as long as they're happy with it?

I will never understand why some people care so much about something that has literally nothing to do with them.
