Book club - plans?

[personal profile] diet_poison 2016-12-28 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
soooo, holy FUCKING shit, I am not going to get the book club book for this month.

I ordered it after Thanksgiving. It was picked up by USPS from the sender on December 2. It was listed as "undeliverable" on December 9, and when I checked on it later that week to see where the hell it was, saw that my address had somehow become a mashup of my current and old addresses. (??????) I fixed it in eBay, but didn't at the time pursue it further because I was so distracted with holiday stuff. It rerouted automatically a few days later though, so I waited some more.

It was delivered last Friday, apparently, to someplace in a city in northern Indiana I've never even been to. :|

soooooo if I ever do get it, it won't be until mid-January at the earliest. And it's not in my library system, since I got kicked out of Indy's main system for moving outside county lines.

I would be more than happy to put up a post for the discussion, but I won't be able to participate. however, if people want, we can maybe do two discussions at the end of January? maybe like a week apart? or on the same day even? I don't really know what else to do. If anyone else wants to host a discussion for December, by all means do so.

Re: library. Can you not go to a library in the area where you now live? And if that library is not part of a larger library system with other branches that may have the book, then request it by ILL (interlibrary loan)--depending on where it has to come from, you might get it in time.

I mean yes, I do have a library system, sorry, thought that was clear. It's just smaller than the one I used to go to.

I have no idea if they do ILL and I don't really have time to find out this week, or pick it up before next week. :/

Oh yeah, you need to read that one. Delay the book club reading a month if you have to. Please.

To be honest I'm not going to get this book back. It was $4, not worth the hassle of calling up USPS and chasing it down. :/

I want to get some feedback from some other folks too. I'll try to repost this tonight.

Well you might as well just strike it from the reading then and skip to whatever piece of stupid shit you selected for next time. Thanks a fucking lot and screw you and your clicky little club then.

What the fuck is the matter with you? I'm not stopping anyone else from reading or talking about the book.

As I've stated before, I run the club by posting rec posts, posting the poll, posting the results, and hosting a discussion. At no point do I guarantee I will read the book, even though I usually do try my best to do so. If you want to pay me, anon, I'd be happy to rearrange my priorities. But this time USPS and IRL pressures got the better of me. If you're bitter about that I'd prefer you not hang around to be an asshole about it, thanks.

Is it available by ebook from your library maybe? Perhaps there's an ebook version of it?

I always love when you've hosted the book clubs, this is tragic and it's like everything has teamed up against you this month, that sucks (I finally read it because it took forever for my library system to get it too)
