Oh, I totally get that. One of the problems with etsy is that the market is really saturated for some crafts, and I think knitted/crocheted items falls into that category. So you always have people whose products are... not very nice looking, and people who feel like they have to set prices low to be competitive. On the other hand, good yarn isn't cheap, and your labor is worth something, too. But people who don't knit/crochet don't always understand that. They look at a hand-knit scarf of alpaca wool and compare it with the cheap acrylic mass-produced scarf at Walmart and think that they're being gouged or something.
