...I don't mean this as a criticism, but it's 1 am and I can't think of a way to phrase this without it sounding like a criticism...

I'm surprised it took so long to notice the connection between him and someone you presumably are pretty familiar with, OP. :P The first time I saw Larry Wilmore on the Daily Show, I saw the similarity between him and my own best friend's husband, and those two aren't even the same race.
