I think this would be the least awkward option. Group cards are a nice way to get the message across that people are thinking of their loss, without putting the recipient or individual givers on the spot too much.

Though, I also think a small batch of cookies (if you know for sure she has no allergies/food preferences) or a cheap gift card in a generic sympathy card would be fine as well, if you aren't comfortable talking to your coworkers or feel it needs a more personal response.

Yeah, we usually do a group card and like a food/fruit basket when there's a bereavement at work.
