New Years Resolution

Do you have one? Or do you think they are bull?

Have you had some in the past? Were you able to fulfill them?

I haven't really in the past, but I have some for 2017:

- Write a bit every day
- Watch at least one movie per week
- Read at least 25 pages per day (things for school not included)

So really, I endeavour to devote more time to hobbies that are not video games or binging a show on Netflix.

I don't call them resolutions but each year I make up a big list of goals that I want to accomplish over the year, following the "rules" about being specific and realistic and all that. I still need to figure out what my goals for 2017 are.

I never have them. I sort of view them with the same cynicism I do Valentine's Day gestures. Why do you need a specific time of year to decide to do something positive?

If I think I need to lose 5lbs or start doing more exercise or start apologizing to people more or whatever... I just freaking do it.

The timing is all about motivation for me. I have a lot of motivation at the beginning of a new year (I have a thing about beginnings in general; new projects, first of the month, mornings; I don't know), so I like to try to take advantage of it.

Ahh that makes sense then. I have no seasonally related motivation. I have sporadic ADD-like bouts of needing to do a specific thing or start or finish a specific task that I will just lose if I don't follow through with it.

So I wind up just doing that thing immediately as soon as it enters my mind just so I don't lose that motivation lol.

I can never think of anything, but every new years I get the feeling that someday in the future, I'm going to regret how I never gave myself any goals to fulfil.

In that vein, maybe, just maybe, this is the year where I'll learn a new language? Maybe?

This year, I want to make good bread. The bread I have tried to make it too dense.

Hopefully the book I got for Christmas 'Flour Water Salt Yeast' will really help me out.

Last couple of years my goal has been to lose weight. I've achieved that one pretty well, though I've been plateaued for a while.

I don't really and I don't think I ever consciously made them, but there were times when I thought 'this time next year I'll be/do/have this'. Same when my birthday came around. And while I don't think it's a bad thing to do, I've stopped doing it because I'd always fail, in a large part due to depression and anxiety. So now, instead of really stating a goal, I state my intent to keep working toward that goal. It's less depressing and more motivating, because even though I see I'm still not where I want to be, I can also see I'm closer now than I was a year ago.

Most of the ones I have are repeats and I've accomplished them to some degree. I'm eating a whole lot better and walking more. The only new one I have is learning how to dance.
