They act like he's exactly the same in every movie but his performance in Pirates of the Caribbean is different from Edward Scissorhands is different from Secret Window is different from Corpse Bride, etc.

This. Like, yes, I recognize him when I'm watching a film, but I rarely feel like I'm watching someone be themselves/be the same character over and over again.
