Well, there are the ships that you ship just because the characters are hot. Used to ship Sirius/Lucius entirely for the hotness and while I do like the idea of Thor/Steve, I will admit the biggest reason I ship is the hot.

Apparently a lot of people project themselves into one of the characters? When I told some fans in a forum a few years ago that I don't (I'm either asexual or have a very low sex drive idk. I don't want to fuck anyone, but I do want my ships to fuck *shrugs*), they were all weirded out. Like "HOW can you ship when you don't want to fuck at least one of them?" It was a really weird experience tbh.

I'm not asexual, but not even once in my life I wanted to fuck a character while shipping them with someone. My subconsciousness probably thinks that would be infidelity or something.

I don't know if it's this for everyone. I don't project myself into any of the pairings I ship, but if I'm going to invest a lot of thought into a pair of people kissing, fondling, having sex– I have to find them semi-attractive to watch doing so.
