I think you're right about Rinoa getting too much flack. I came into FF8 via Fandom, so I'd seen quite a bit of the bashing, especially since I was exclusively slash at the time, but when I did get to play the game... she wasn't great, but she wasn't really bad either. I still don't think her and Squall is a relationship that could last, but I also don't think it would automatically end with her being an evil demanding bitch too.
