I wasn't aware that that had become the prevailing critical opinion, but I am damned glad to hear it. I'll grant that it had some nice visuals, but there really wasn't much substance built around them. Cliches aren't always a bad thing, but if I can call the entire "plot" of your story down to the fine details within the first three minutes and predict every "surprise twist" early along the way, you aren't using the cliches properly. I hadn't heard about the sequels either, but I also kind of hope they don't do well. I usually try not to indulge in too much schadenfreude, but I'll make an exception for this.
