Re: What characters will you defend with every breathe in your body?
Yes, I have many Celebrimbor feelings. He isn't perfect. But still. I'm very protective of him.
Buffy Summers against anyone who acts like her having moments of humanity makes her awful. Like, really? And even on the show, I get annoyed at episodes like the one where everyone jumps on her when she comes back after having to kill the love of her life. Really? Cut her some slack.
Harry Potter in book 5. Capslock!Harry was a far smaller reaction than most anyone else would have to going through all he went through.

(Anonymous) 2017-01-05 02:36 am (UTC)(link)This is a really good point.
Something I didn't notice about the show when I watched it as a teen, is how unfairly self-righteous and judgmental the characters could sometimes be. I mean, I'm someone who really likes and admires Joss Whedon, both as a creator and as a person. So for me, criticizing his work is not meant as some kind of sweeping condemnation, as it often seems to be for many people who've decided he's awful.
But yeah, the way people acted towards Buffy at the beginning of S3 always seemed really unfair. I also seem to recall a blip of self-righteous in-fighting near the end of S4? And don't even get me started on Giles' whole S6 plotline being like "Your mom died, your dad's negligent, you're singularly tasked with fighting the forces of darkness, you're responsible for your teenage sister, and you're all fucked up from being pulled out of heaven, but the way you keep relying on me to help you, Buffy, is really unhealthy and inappropriate, I mean take some responsibility for your life, you're twenty, you're not a child anymore, jeez!"
Like, holy shit that plotline was such a horrid miscalculation.
Also agree with you about book 5 Harry.

(Anonymous) 2017-01-06 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)Is that the one where they decided to throw a "welcome back" party she didn't want and spent most of it avoiding her when she clearly wanted to talk/explain? And yet we were supposed to side with them because... reasons? I want to say "because to them she just disappeared" but wouldn't that be more reason to listen/talk to her? (I never watched it myself but I heard some rants from a friend.)
Harry: Let's see, watched someone die in front of his eyes and the return of his archnemesis, his friends kept secrets from him, the government are successfully painting him as a paranoid attention seeker, he can't speak to his godfather and he's all of 15 years old... nope, no idea what you're talking about! 8D
