I tend to have one fandom at a time, but be pretty involved and active for as long as I'm in it.

I've been in my last fandom for 5 years, and it's been one of the greatest fandom experiences I ever had - I met terrific people, some of which visited me IRL from all over the world, I built a well-liked blog and became a popular fanfic writer, I recorded podcasts and participated in events, I even befriended industry professionals and was asked to publish about my fandom, which I did.

Well.

It was bound to happen, and now it has: I've lost interest in this fandom, and fell in love with a new one. I'm still keeping my blog, and I hope I can maintain my friendships, because at least some grew past strictly fandom...

But the thing is, there is zero overlap between my old fandom and my
new one, and it's so weird to go back to not knowing anybody. I'm
trying to get to know people in my new fandom, and I'm sure I'll
probably eventually find some, but I feel so damn lonely.

I completely forgot what it feels like to have no-one to talk to.

S!B: Cry moar.

Well, though if your new fandom is a NEW fandom you ought to find lots of peeps to talk to.

(your BNF days might be over, though. Welcome to the unwashed masses!)

Heh. I really danced around it, but I think you're right. I guess I miss being a BNF, it was pretty sweet.

I have a good friend who was a BNF in one fandom and dropped it for a new one. She never did gain traction in the new one, despite her best efforts, and while she was gone, the first fandom faded away.

Hey, at least she (and you) got to be a BNF for a little while...right?
