You've never heard a Beyonce song?

There's a difference between heard and listened to.
I've heard Single Ladies, Halo and that To the Left song, but fuck if I could tell you any lyrics beyond "If you liked it than you shoulda put a ring on it" "HALOOOOOOOO!!!! HALO HALO HALO!!!!" and "to the left to the left".

Oh, I recognize two of those! "All the Single Ladies" plays on the radio sometimes, and "Halo" showed up in AMV Hell a lot.

+1. I've heard Single Ladies (annoying, maybe because it's repetitive and it played everywhere), but never heard the other two you mentioned. I do know of Beyonce, because she's got a big media presence, but I am pretty much unfamiliar with most of her music.

I don't really know. I heard Justin Bieber songs years before I found out the person singing them was named Justin Bieber.

I just Googled to see if Beyonce was the person who sang that "Firework" song that's been playing a lot recently. Turns out that person is named Katy Perry.

Not everyone listens to pop music and it's really easy to avoid if you don't live with anyone who listens to it.

I mean, I feel like, if you're out and about in society, it's quite hard to completely avoid pop music, especially music as popular as Beyonce

Depends on where you hang out.

As someone above pointed out, saying "I'm not familiar with Beyonce" doesn't preclude me having once been in a mall where a Beyonce song was playing. If you played me a Beyonce song, I would probably say, "Oh yeah, I've heard that." However, I also couldn't identify it as a Beyonce song if you offered me a million dollars and I couldn't pick Beyonce herself out of a lineup.

I think it depends a lot on where you live. I live in a rural area and I can't tell you the last time I heard any pop music playing when out and about. It's almost always country or an oldies station playing in stores/businesses and I don't listen to the radio in my car, so I can honestly say I have no idea what's considered popular anymore.

I ran into pop being played a lot more when I lived in a major city though, even if I never really paid attention to it.
