These two focus on smaller crimes. S&S can be quite graphic (and I sometimes get annoyed by the narrator) but it is really great.

Criminal. http://thisiscriminal.com/
Sword and Scale. http://swordandscale.com/

My Favorite Murder is quite popular but I've not listened to it a lot (yet). http://www.feralaudio.com/show/my-favorite-murder/

You Must Remember This has a season on Charles Manson. One of the best series I've ever heard. http://www.youmustrememberthispodcast.com/

For serial killers I listen to Last Podcast on the Left's big hitter episodes (they also do episodes on occult and conspiracy theory stuff). However, Last Podcast is...very non-PC. Like...if Tumblr heard them, their heads would explode. But they are quite funny and informative. I'd suggest you give it a listen. Maybe try the Columbine episodes or one of the serial killers. http://cavecomedyradio.com/pod-series/last-podcast-on-the-left/
