I've been 'unofficially studying' for about a year now, but am only just now really organizing myself. I've picked up some things here and there, so I'm not fresh meat, but most definitely floating in beginner territory :P

Are you fluent?

Not fluent, but already reached that annoying stage where I can basically read with a dictionary, it's just very slow. Read real books, I mean.
I did a translation of Tanizaki a year or so back (I don't know if you know, but that's some torturous Japanese. Beautiful, but painful). But I can't read smoothly yet - I'm trying to work up to that.
Currently my professor has me working on translating a book, so I'm bashing my head against it.

Wow, that's something else! I'm learning Katakana right now; I already know 36, and I'm gonna study the rest in an hour. I'm faster at hiragana, but still quite slow. I have to look at each syllabary - and with katakana, I have to really look at each one. So the thought of translating a book is crazy awesome to me!

Do you know any other languages?

My Japanese and Korean are about the same level, speaking a bit better in Korean. I studied Chinese for a few years, but set it aside for the moment, to work on the other two. Fluent in Hebrew and English.
