As long as you repeatedly say how more interesting Jyn would be if she were of color you'll fit right in OP

For the record, though, Cassian would have been way more interesting as a woman.

Ooh, now I'm picturing it... hmm, that could have been really cool.

[sa] I think that fem!Cassian could have been a really interesting sort of mirroring of Jyn, with them both being women who came into the Rebellion very young, and were child soldiers, and Jyn left and tried to find her own way and fem!Cassian stayed and did a lot of shady shit, and... yeah.

Yes, exactly what I was thinking!

(Anonymous) 2017-01-08 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Ohhh, yeah!
For one, I wouldn't have gotten him constantly mixed up with the pilot guy.

I like the movie as it is, and I like Cassian as he is, but now that you mention it, I agree, Cassian totally could have been a woman and it would have worked really well and been awesome.

(Anonymous) 2017-01-09 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
It's definitely a role that would have worked either way.

Yup!

How would he have been "more interesting"? The Rebellion has always given women loads of responsibility, so it's not like she'd be breaking glass ceilings in-universe.

Oh, you meant it woud have appeased your need to shove women to the forefront because "it's our TURN!" That's not interesting.

Lololol what even is this comment

(Anonymous) 2017-01-09 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Which part don't you understand? Put simply, I want to know what makes Fem!Cassian inherently more interesting than male Cassian. Because I don't see how it does unless you think wpmen are more interesting than men, in which case, you're a shitty person.

Because you can't have it both ways. Either there's no fundamental difference between men and women or there is.

it's funny how there's no fundamental difference between women and men yet the Rogue squadron only had one female character!

(Anonymous) 2017-01-09 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
A+ for deflection, but I'm still waiting for an answer. I'm beginning to suspect you don't actually have one.

(Anonymous) 2017-01-09 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Why on earth would i have to justify my personal opinion about enjoying movies that feature relationships between women?

Nice trolling tho

(Anonymous) 2017-01-09 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Read better. Because all that blather you just wrote isn't what I asked about.

LOLOL, I am sorry that I have my own opinions about what I personally find interesting.

(Anonymous) 2017-01-09 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
We did see lots of women in authority in the background, though.

Put simply, I want to know what makes Fem!Cassian inherently more interesting than male Cassian.

For one thing, as someone else already said, Jyn and Fem!Cassian would have made really neat mirrors of each other - Jyn choosing to go it alone and rejecting the cause in favor of personal survival, while Cassian chooses very much the opposite. Yet they both appear to feel, in different ways, that their choices have caused them to lose themselves to some degree - Jyn because she stands for nothing, and Cassian because (s)he has done terrible things for the cause. But the events of Rogue One - and the influence Jyn and Cassian have on each other - causes them to eventually meet each other in the middle. It's a dynamic that works perfectly well with Cassian as Male, but the mirror quality of the two characters gets somewhat diluted by their being of different genders.

For another thing, I think the delicacy with which the narrative developes the possibilities of romance and attraction between Jyn and Cassian would be a really beautiful thing to see written for an F/F pairing.

Thirdly, for all the cop movies, and bro movies, and brother movies, and hero vs nemesis movies out there that feater dual male leads, there just aren't many movies out there with dual female leads that aren't pigeonholed as "chickflicks" and marketed specifically (near exclusively) to women. And because there's such a massive dearth in this area, it makes good movies that do fit the description all the more interesting and exciting.

I'm sure there are more reasons why someone might feel that Fem!Cassian would make for a more interesting story than male Cassian. There are just the first three that spring to mind. Personally, I like the movie as is and don't really want to say that I think one Cassian or the other would be inherently more interesting. But I also don't have any problem understanding why someone might feel that Fem!Cassian would make the story more interesting, and frankly, your refusal to consider why someone might feel that way makes you seem like something of a reactionary jerk.

Thank you for this, it's basically what I was thinking but more articulated. Person is either a reactionary jerk or a troll.
