I dunno, when you have rooms called parlors and pantries and tea rooms and lounges and studies, etc.

I wouldn't consider a house that's big due to having a lot of bedrooms a mansion per se. In my mind there has to be excess single-purpose rooms that only exist for luxury purposes.

If you have a house that has more bedrooms than occupants, you can turn those rooms into other single-purpose rooms though. My family had a 5-bedroom house, parents and 3 kids, so the other bedroom became a study/office. Or my friends' family home where the surplus bedroom was converted into a dance studio area/home gym.
