Honestly, I didn't have super high hopes for this movie and mainly saw it because I thought the guy playing Goku was cute. It sucked as a DB adaptation, but I still found it mildly entertaining.

This is my sentiment on it. As a DB adaptation it was godawful.

But I'll be damned if it wasn't at least a little entertaining and the cast was at least fun-looking.

It's amazing how many films would be pretty decent standalone films if they would just decide to file off the serial numbers, and not make it a bastardized adaption of a beloved franchise. (Aeon Flux movie, I'm also looking at you.)

Agreed. I was never into DB so I had no comparison, so I actually enjoyed it as its own movie.

That is one ugly guy front and center there, from stupid hair to stalker glare, ug-lee.

I enjoyed it but mostly because I spend the 90 mins it was on laughing almost the entire time, which was great fun but I'm not sure that was the intended reaction they were going for.

I thought it was pretty bad by any metric. I went in thinking it would be good for laughs, but I don't think it was a particularly coherent or successful hero's journey in general. And I WANTED to enjoy the film.

I'm not familiar with Dragonball in any form, so when I caught the movie on tv I didn't have anything to compare it against. I found it an entertaining movie but definitely nothing spectacular.

I loved it even as a DB adaptation. Every franchise has room for a hilariously horrible Westernized take on their story. *coughMarioBrosmoviecough*

I haven't seen it, but I SWEAR I've seen some other DBZ live-action? It was back in college, so who even knows if I'm remembering it right.

Like, if this movie came out in the 80's or even 90's I'd be more lenient, because stupid fun movies were all the rage back then. But it came out in 2009, so it didn't even meet my standards for mindless entertainment. Wooden characters, bad dialogue, lack of cool effects and action scenes, illogical plot, etc. What was the saving grace?

best part of this film was seeing it high on painkillers (thanks, wisdom teeth!) in theatres with my best friend.

then, many years later, following the instructions on DVD with 5+ other uni students to perform the kamehameha
