In a related vein, I really don't get the reasoning behind trial captains having to retire at the age of 20. Even Captain Dreamboat Ilima being too young for me aside, I don't understand why adults can't be trial captains.

Post game (I think) Mallow says Trial Captains have to retire once they turn 20.

Weird. It doesn't bother me a whole lot honestly, but - in retrospect I'm surprised that dude doesn't tell us this at the Observatory before you help Sophocols. He does say "I used to be a Captain" after all.
