I see no problem with tracing around 3D model dolls and photos of objects and honestly its really only a problem if you're stealing from someone else or not crediting their work.

It's no different then drawing one eye and copy-paste and flipping it. or copying a bit you're going to be repeating a lot.

I don't have an issue with this either, I mean, matte painting is an art form and that is literally editing together all different photos to make a new painting.

The biggest issue with tracing is though that if someone is an inexperienced artist they won't understand why just tracing exactly won't make something look good and will make a drawing look stiff. An experienced artist can trace and still change enough to make for a nice piece. This is really why you need to learn to draw regardless of how you want to approach it.

Oh definitely.

But that's more of a mindset thing. People looking for a quick fix and approaching something with that mindset makes for bad art.

If you have the right mindset and skill you can do good work with things like bases and shit, you just have to be willing to put WORK into it.

Waste of time generally. In the time it takes to find the right photo references, match the perspective and lighting, a competent sketch artist can produce an entire page of thumbnails to work with.

I suppose.

I have Design Doll and it works amazingly for me for very specific scenes.
