Adding more POC would be fine, except that's just more "you're not representing us right" fuel. Especially if you give them character flaws.

I don't think it would fuel the fire because at the moment part of the problem is that even when people have good intentions, as in this case, every single expectation from the group represented is focused on that one character. Which it can't reasonably be expected to live up to. If there was more diversity there wouldn't be pressure for the token minority to be perfect.
