Re: Childhood Trauma Thread

For years I had a terror of windows at night. Specifically from the inside, windows with no curtains across them looking out onto pitch black. Windows had to have the curtains closed at night or I'd freak out. I'm 90% sure this was because I turned a light on as a young kid and my sudden reflection on black glass scared the bejeezus out of me. I had this creeping conviction for years that windows out onto darkness had things lurking beyond them waiting to jump at me.

I am an adult woman and I still think windows at night are really unsettling. Same with open closet doors or anything that takes the lighting from dark to that inky solid blackness of absolute dark.

I read a short story as a kid that ended with a woman seeing a face looking in her window at night, and for a long time I always though I'd look over and see a face looking in.

I'm 24 and I STILL feel this way. Same with dark basements. My Mom will ask me to get something for her, and if the light is busted, I won't go down there to get the item.
