I grew up hearing stories about La Llorona and became terrified of basically all bodies of water bigger than a bathtub. I'm actually still feel kinda scared whenever I'm near a river or lake, but mainly because I can't swim.

Oh god I've read those stories before. That stuff sticks with you.

I can swim, but not well. Do you have the opportunity for lessons near you?

I do actually because one of my friends has a pool. She's told me many times that she can teach me how to swim, but I start feeling anxious as soon as the water's up to my knees.

Well, you shouldn't do anything that will upset you, but if you learn to swim you may find it eases some of your stress. Or at least learn to float.
