Oh stow it, Hillbot. He won, she lost. They both knew the system they were playing for but he played it better.

You do know that a president is not an all-powerful emperor/king/evil overlord, right? Like, he's employed by the government. People are not required to lick his boots if they don't want to.

We do, however, live in a democratic republic where people who don't like the government must nonetheless abide by the laws it passes. I would very much like to see all the people who don't consider Trump their president to prove it with some old-school civil disobedience.

There's a difference between 'licking boots' and acknowledging that he will almost certainly be president.

Like, I didn't LIKE that Bush was the president, but he was still the fucking president. Crying that "Trump's not MY president" is really not productive. He will be your president almost certainly, so either find ways to make him and his administration be less destructive or suck it up that we lost.

Re: Is Trump president yet or not

That's the reason I simply say "I didn't vote for him" instead. So people won't misconstrue my personal feelings on the matter.

I fully understand that Trump will be our president, likely for at least the next four years. That doesn't mean I'm any less fearful of what he and the Republic majority will do while he's in power.

Nah, I give it two months before he's impeached.

Same. All this Russian hacking business is REALLY not going to bode well for him, and if the stuff in those memos is proven to be true as well...yeah. He'll be so screwed.

And if he does wind up being impeached, I will grab some popcorn and watch and laugh.

President Pence though. Competent at being evil takes over.

Re: Is Trump president yet or not

This is very true. But I figure that'd be one of those bridges we'd cross when we came to it, and figure out what to do and how to deal with him from there.

People were giving him a week before he dropped out of the election though so who knows

Yeah, I'm fine with "I didn't vote for him". I mean, I didn't either.

"Not my president" is just sort of... washing your hands of the problem imo. It's saying that your person didn't win so in your mind no one did? Or, the structures of law and power in the US should only apply some of the time? idk maybe it's just bc I'm an Angry Socialist Immigrant but I find it tedious and hypocritical. It's bad when birthers refuse to acknowledge Obama but totes justified if it's someone they don't like.

It's like looking at an oil spill and saying "well, I didn't put it there, it's not my boat that crashed." It doesn't matter. The responsibility still falls on all of us to fix it.

Not to me. Saying 'not my president' repudiates the idea that this person is remotely qualified to lead, has one erg of my support, and an ounce of my respect. Trump is *not* my president and never will be, and I suspect he won't *be* president for long, if ever (who knows what the news will bring tomorrow!).

Pence is even worse of a person to have running the country, so ...it's all just a fucking mess. No matter what happens, though, i'm not washing my hands of *anything*, and certainly am prepared to fight to keep all the advances President Obama and others made in the last eight years.

This. I'm old enough to have voted in the past three elections, and while I wasn't thrilled when Bush won, I accepted him as the president and was willing to support and respect him in that position even if I hadn't voted for him.

Trump, on the other hand... nah. I see no reason to support or respect him when he shows absolutely zero respect for anyone else.

I had my issues with the Shrub, as well, and toward the end, my respect for him was nil. Trump never even registered on the respect meter, and he's going double-negative-digits fast with every idiot tweet he sends.

At least with Bush, I was fairly certain that he did want what was best for America, even though his notion of "best" was approximately 180 degrees away from mine.

Trump only wants what's best for Trump.

This.

Also, Bush at least had the good sense to not go on epic rants against people who dared to criticize him. He had a thick enough skin to just deal with it and move on.

Trump, on the other hand, is just...good lord. I don't know that I've ever seen a whinier crybaby than him.

I never really had that feeling about the Shrub. He seemed to be working for the best interests of a certain rarefied group of people that excluded nearly everyone who wasn't white, straight, and rich.

You are an American. He will be your president. You my hate him and everything he stands for but that doesn't change the fact that he will be the president of the United States. You don't get your own special president or to not have a president just because you don't like the one in power. That's not how this works.

It is for me. He is not, and will not, be my president. Period.

But like, I'm intentionally meaning to sound like I'm washing my hands of it since I have no control over any governmental proceedings. He's not my president. I don't recognize him as an authority. I don't respect him. Like that Monty Python scene. I didn't vote for him. So saying "not my president" gives me some emotional distance that I've been reaching for since November 8th.

He lost the popular vote by millions more than some presidents have won by. He didn't play it better, there was fraud and conspiracies they're actually proving took place.

Re: Is Trump president yet or not

(Anonymous) 2017-01-13 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
The "popular" vote has nothing to do with getting to be president though. Never has. It is a distraction. It doesn't matter if every single person in New York and California safely votes for you because you have to have votes spread through a plurality of states. That was the system going in and Trump understood that better than Hillary. He won more games, so he won the league.

This is you liberals own damn fault you do know that. You refuse to stay in flyover and change things, first damn chance you get you head for the coasts and concentrate all your votes in one or two states and leave all the angry white racist folks dominating multiple states. Until you start targeting Republican states and townships and move into them en masse (just like Republicans have been doing with the few liberal communities in flyover, for the last twenty years) then this is the shape of things to come. If you don't like it and are not willing to move into flyover, then you need to have California secede. Those are your options. Bet you'll pick the sit and bitch futilely option though.

first of all, success does not justify all things

second of all, completely irrational rejection of political outcomes is actually good as hell
