My mom had the bridge fear. She had recurring dreams about driving off of them even before she could drive.

That's understandable! It's hard to come back from moments like that.

I think one of the things that can make a fear linger is if it morphs into an adult fear. The escalator one is a fear of misplacing my foot and falling down. I also have had my fear of lightening morph in to and adult fear - as a child it was just loud sudden noises, as an adult it is knowing that indoor lightening strikes can happen (lightening causes a power surge through wiring or passes through water). My other lightening fear is losing my computer to a power surge.

The best one can do is invest in surge protectors, for computers, and be a little wary during storms, though I know the lightening strikes are super-rare.

Yeah, we use surge protectors for EVERYTHING.
