I liked him too, but I found that moment pretty awesome.

Why is an incredibly poor narrative choice?

And it does kinda sound like it's because your least favorite character (who happens to be one of my favorites, tbh) killed your favorite character...

And I also found that moment to be pretty awesome.

Agreed on all points.

Not the OP, but I can see why someone might think killing off that guy was a poor narrative choice. He was an interesting character you didn't know much about, and I personally wondered how he got to be Fisk's second in command, why he was so loyal to Fisk and what he got out of that relationship, etc. It's strongly implied after his death that Fisk also saw their relationship as going beyond employer/right hand man, and we don't see any of that in the show.

That moment cost me about 75% of my emotional investment in the show. I kept hoping it was a dream.

(Anonymous) 2017-01-14 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Me too.

Wesley was, IMO, the best character on the show.

Yeah, I remember thinking that surely he had gone in expecting her to shoot him and had worn a bulletproof vest + squibs so she'd think she killed him and then felt compelled to run away and thus no longer be a problem.

But no, he was actually dumb enough to give her access to a loaded gun with no plan for what to do if she actually shot him.

EDIT: so yeah, that's what pissed me off about this (I'm fairly ambivalent about Karen but tbh I ended up pretty ambivalent about everybody on that show)....he's shown as this hyper-competent character and then he makes this rookie mistake. Like what the hell?

Ugh, I hate it when hyper-competent characters get dumbed down and suddenly forget their skills just to make another character, usually the hero, look better.

(Anonymous) 2017-01-14 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this is exactly how I felt, too.

(Anonymous) 2017-01-14 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
People will find any reason to hate Karen.

(Anonymous) 2017-01-14 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
least favorite character =/= I hate Karen

Out of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry ice cream, strawberry is my least favorite. I don't hate it, and if someone offers me a bowl of strawberry ice cream, I'll happily accept. It just falls third out of the three choices in my ranked preferences. If strawberry ice cream is your favorite, great! But it's weird to around being snippy at people who like other flavors a little more than they like strawberry.

NAYRT

Yeah but for some reason it seems like almost everyone hates Karen. I'm not sure why other than she's one of like... two female main characters. (Three if you include Elektra as a main).

(Anonymous) 2017-01-14 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, but OP didn't say anything about hating Karen, nor has any hatred of Karen been posted in this thread. Anon I was responding to just brought it up out of the blue.

(Anonymous) 2017-01-14 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, is it out of the blue, really? I mean if you're in a circle of ten people and nine of them said that chocolate was disgusting, it stands to reason you might assume the tenth person thought so too.

And while it's not necessarily true that OP hates Karen, there's enough vitriol in the DD fandom against her to believe that 'least favourite' is gentle terms for, "I hate her".

(Anonymous) 2017-01-14 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
That's not the best analogy because again, the "circle" that the anon is participating in is this comment thread, which contains zero amount of Karen hate. If you're going to participate in a discussion, it doesn't make sense to craft your responses based on things nobody in that discussion has said.

It makes even less sense, when this is noted, to say that well, see, these other people (none of whom are currently present) expressed X opinion (which hasn't been expressed here, by anyone) so I was responding to THAT. It'd be like joining a group at a party who's happily discussing football and accusing them of hating figure skating, because, uh, some other people somewhere else hate figure skating so you probably hate figure skating, too.

lol stop with the food analogies! xD

(Anonymous) 2017-01-14 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Lol you sound pretty snippy

(Anonymous) 2017-01-14 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
lol k

(Anonymous) 2017-01-14 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly yeah...?
She'll always be one of those characters that get waaay too much hate and bullshit that I'll never truly understand.

I liked Westly but this was one of my favourite scenes in season 1, I just really enjoyed how it all unfolded even if I was sad to see him go.

I thought that scene was pretty cool, but the whole time I was hoping it meant that they were going to now make Karen an interesting character. Alas.

(I don't hate her; I'm just kind of sick of a certain character type, and she's it.)

(Anonymous) 2017-01-14 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
I liked Wesley, but this scene was great. Really unexpected and brutal. Also, much better than the way he died in the comics.

(Anonymous) 2017-01-14 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
I disagree. I'm not hugely into S1 Karen, but MAN THAT SCENE ROCKED SO HARD. (And I thought Wesley was cool, mind you). It was a great scene.
