Time to grow up as a reader then: the author is not their work. (Works can be good even if their creator's are nothing but.)

That seems a little condescending. The OP is allowed to feel like a work is diminished by the behavior of the author in the OP's view. They're not even being nasty or particularly critical about it, which makes your snide "time to grow up" even more puzzling as an overreaction.

Except that in this case, the author went out of their way to step from behind the curtain and underscore how very very much they WERE this work.
