15 - Oh god, that scene broke my heart so badly. I resented the ending like NOTHING ELSE at the time. I wanted something to happen, at least a kiss, ~~fuck, she kissed Allen, but not Van?!~~. But then again, they had guts. Leave it to Japan to create an ending like that. It kind of made their relationship something that was more than just romance... something made out of stronger stuff that didn't need to be validated by physical closeness. Blah blah, purity, true love, whatever. That said, I sometimes still want that fairytale disney ending, deep down inside. D: I think i make no sense.

Dude, is there an active fandom for this? god I miss Escaflowne. My first serious obsession ever. D;

22 - I didn't like the Vampire Chronicles doujinshi much, but I agree. Why the hell did Anne Rice try to suppress her entire fandom? :S

No problem, i've read through a lot of their RP logs and they're amazing, ~~other than the ones i took part in lolx~~.

I think she did that so people wouldn't ruin her characters. I mean, there are so few good fanfic writers out there, that maybe she didn't want to risk gaining a morbid curiosity and coming across badfic.

But I do love Tom Cruise as Lestat.

That's actually no reason to suppress an entire fandom. Yes, you don't want to have your characters ruined, and god knows that I love my OCs dearly, but seriously? You can't control what everyone does, and by trying to stop your fans from interpreting your work you alienate them. In the end, that's what Fanfic is -- a way of interacting directly with the text from a fan's point of view. Stopping that really is a ridiculous thing to try and do.

If you don't like it, don't go looking for it. Say "I'm not fond of fanfic, I don't read it.", but don't say "Don't write it." Disapprove verbally, but don't go around to websites trying to close them down. Tolerance, woman, gods. If she can't resist her morbid curiosity, she should control it. It's no reason to stop people from writing what they want to write.

I've never written any Vampire Chronicles fanfic, but seriously? Meh. Authors like this just come off as selfish. She just doesn't want to see other peoples' interpretations of her characters running around the interwebs.

It's not that I dislike Anne Rice or anything. I'm a huge fan of her books and Lestat is one of the most amazing characters I've read in modern fiction. It's just that I don't see why she, or any other authors/manga artists/whatever think they should suppress the entire fandom just because they don't want to see badfic on the internet. :'/

Tom Cruise as Lestat was indeed very good. =O

Yes, but Rice thinks you can. She believes the author is God, at least she does now. Hence her infamous 'you're interrogating the text from the wrong perspective' rant in response to negative Amazon reviews of one of her Jesus books.

The irritating thing is that she's now turning away from the vampires, because they're not appropriate for a good Christian to be writing about - fair enough! But don't go on about how you want to ban fandom because Lestat belongs to you only.

Oh my god, i haven't heard about that rant (i'm a little out of touch with Anne Rice's stuff in general -.-) but honestly, where would literature be without discussion or differing interpretation? Writing is a two-way thing - you still have to engage with the reader and be reasonable enough to understand what they're thinking before attacking them. I suppose they could have been a little mean about things, but lasfjdas; it's just amazon so WHY. :'/

Eh, is it something like: "man was given the ability to create so that he may resemble God, so therefore what man creates he is God of?" I love the logic. If she's going to write something, as an author, other people are going to want to discuss or challenge it in some ways. We're all human after all.

Doesn't her fandom feel a little betrayed by her? :'/ It's like she's denying her entire life's work after converting - not that i have anything against religion, but seriously.. ._.
