This. Many of my friends were/are into Harry Potter, but they're savvy enough to realize that it wasn't THE cornerstone of everyone's childhood. They're happy to geek out with fellow fans, but there's no expectation that random strangers will be equally as into it or even know what they're talking about.

NAYRT - Harry Potter nerd here! I learned early on that everyone's level of interest in HP - and in general - is different. You do have to respect that.

And as for people who haven't read the books, hey, that's fine. I never listened to half the bands "everyone" my age at a certain time listened to. Not because I had a deprived adolescence, I just wasn't all that interested.
