I'm probably unreasonably angry today over people who think they're doing LGBTQ people a big favor by shipping.

I think I'm always unreasonably angry about that tbh.

Like, don't pretend that shipping Johnlock or Wincest or Sterek or whatever is some kind of victory for fags like me. Or that those shows would EVER actually go there with the characters, when the creators have stated over and over again that it won't happen. That it's a joke to them.

Hannibal, with two canon queer couples, was a victory. Games like Dragon Age: Inquisition or Skyrim, where you can get gay married, are a victory. Alexandra Grey being able to work in Hollywood is a victory. Hell, I think How I Met Your Mother was a victory, because it showed Marshall being a sensitive emotional guy as a good thing rather than a joke.

Fucking shippers, man.

There is that. I think it's a bit of "bread and circuses." Shipping takes up large chunks of bandwidth that could be spent raising attention regarding legislative or legal activism. Some shippers have shitty attitudes regarding LGBTQ people. And with people participating in ship- and headcanon-wars as an excuse to indulge in petty intracommunity wank, I don't think that it serves the purpose of creating welcoming and inclusive fandoms anymore.
