You can definitely call his office and see if you can get an appointment.

There's no way to know exactly what to expect ahead of time re: whether you have to go back to a waitlist or not. Worst case scenario you have to wait a while for an appointment.

When I have problems like this, simply calling, explaining the situation, and asking what I should do almost always helps because at least then I know what to do. Whatever the answer turns out to be, you won't be wondering about it anymore.

You're right. But I just googled him to see if I could find when his office was open (I remembered it being closed on mondays) and apparently he retired last year :(
