Have you never heard the word "hate" used like that on the internet? It doesn't mean the person doing the "hating" literally hates the other people in the equation. But it's a lot of looking down their nose at other people. I hate the term "secondhand embarrassment" too because the implication is, how dare anyone enjoy what they enjoy publicly because then it will make other fans embarrassed.

Bottom line is, get over it and let other people like what they like how they like it. If you have secondhand embarrassment about someone else being a fan it seems to me more like a personal issue with insecurity.
