Fullmetal Alchemist

Even though the thing with Ed's height was always played for laughs, I thought that there was some real sensitivity there. Sometimes if you have some trait that everybody insists on commenting on all the time it can get really old and wear down tolerance. I always thought that he probably was actually kind of over everybody making such a big deal of his shortness all the time.
I know short people, including short guys; people don't go on and on about it. I imagine that if people did, they'd get annoyed about it too, after a while.

Is that not canon? Yeah, the way it was presented was always comedic, but I never thought that meant any implication that Ed wasn't actually sensitive about his height. Ed ranting about comments on his height was the same as Hughes gushing about his daughter: the latter was also OTT and meant to be funny to the viewer, but that didn't mean he wasn't actually a really proud and loving dad.

I don't know. It seemed to me that it was often treated as one of those "irrational" quirks that characters get. Like Josuke Higashikata and going crazy about his hair being insulted, or Levi and his obsession with cleaning (which tbh, I also kind of headcanon as him being just a regular doesn't-like-to-get-dirty type person, rather than the "clean nut" they present him as, but that's a different thing).
I guess that to me, the people around him who kept on with the short jokes came off as a bit assholish about the whole business.
