I don't know what this is, or anything about it, but that sounds frustrating, OP.

You can pick and choose which bachelor/ette to marry in this game. A lot of people felt bad for Shane (he works at an expy of Walmart, which he hates, and he's very hard to speak to at the start of the game) but felt he had enough redeeming qualities (he loves chickens, for one) that they'd like for him to be a date-able character (he was originally just a random NPC you could only become friends with).

However, he's pretty much a "fixer-upper" as far as bachelors go. He's an alcoholic, he doesn't take care of himself, and he just has very low motivation. He honestly comes across as depressed, but you can't "fix" him by marrying him. If someone chooses him as their husband and they end up not liking him, they can divorce him and pick someone else, so it's not like you're stuck with him.

At least there are mods to clean up his room. But yeah, I think after all the character cutscenes you get, it's a bit of a letdown. It just wasn't well executed. I'm mostly annoyed that even after all the "I'm going to live a more healthy life and not drink so much anymore", he still keeps his schedule of going to the saloon and chugging beer all night every day when he's not married yet.
But I generally wish the whole dating/engaged/married status would reflect more in all the bacelor/ettes conversations.

I'm sorry to hear that about him! I got so burned out right before 1.1 dropped, I haven't been able to make myself play and explore the new patch, but he had been a big part of what I was looking forward to.

I, too, was hoping we could "fix" him!
