Probably a combination of depression and comfort eating. My grandma's death exacerbated my depression and I didn't want to do anything except sleep and eat. I got help for the depression a few years ago, but I still have issues with food because whenever something bad happens, my first instinct is to eat twelve bowls of instant ramen and a family sized bag of chips.
