I had a cat that wouldn't leave the vertical blinds alone. I was renting a room with a backyard view. I ended up pulling them all the way to the top and securing the string. I got a couple of black foam core poster boards from the Dollar Tree, cut them to fit, and taped them together. I could take it down when I needed to.
