I can relate to your feeling, anon. Hell, I share Greg as the "ideal dad" (mostly because I feel I should watch the whole of Gravity Falls before I declare that about Stan and Ford) because damn, I didn't even have my dad since he decided his gin and his Budweiser and whatever the hell other alcohol he drank was worth more than his own daughter.

I'm sorry, OP :(.

I'm glad that these characters can be a source of comfort to you, though.

I love Greg as a father figure, he isn't perfect at all but his love for a Steven is so clear it honestly makes me smile. I'm sorry your own dad isn't good for you OP but I'm glad you can take comfort in these characters nonetheless.

same tbh

Growing up, my dad wasn't in the picture very often. They had divorced because my mom felt he would have been over-protective and controlling (ie. I couldn't have male friends because dad thought they would have tried something, despite us being in kindergarten), and he had severe problems with alcohol that eventually caused his death when I was 12.

The very few times I was able to visit him when he was sober, he reminded me a bit of Greg. We'd play video games, build model cars and airplanes, go into the field and catch grasshoppers, even just listen to music. Nowadays, when I see such great paternal figures in children's media, I'll admit I feel a little sad. I would have loved having someone like Stan around, and someone like Ford would have encouraged my love of learning and might have influenced me to do something good with my life.

Greg is so great. It means a RIDICULOUS amount to me to see a positive portrayal of a gentle, caring single dad who literally lives in a van. He's like my dad, without all the fucked up stuff. A balm to my broken little soul.

I don't really see Stan the same way, but I can see how you would. He's a character I relate too more on his own merits.
