Re: What is your favorite physical feature on yourself?

I've got fantastic eyebrows and a nice thick thatch of springy hair. I've also got a thin scar on the back of my right arm that I'm weirdly attached to. I can't remember how I got it, but it's been there for years and years and every summer when my arms tan it shows up all thin and white and familiar and I'm just oddly fond of it. I've got a more recent one on my left hand from where a dog got over-excited that I'm beginning to get attached to as well. I'm not sure if you're supposed to do that with scars. They're just, you know. Familiar nicks and dings?

I know just what you mean, and "oddly fond" is a good way to describe it. I have a scar on my left index finger from trying to cut carrots when I was 3, and whenever I used to draw my hands for practice, I got a kick out of adding in the detail of my scar. I couldn't tell you why -- maybe because the memory of how I got it has no negative emotions behind it and it's just a little white line -- but it's an essential part of the landscape of my skin now and I'd miss seeing it if it were gone.

I like my scars too. I used to absolutely hate this one huge one on my thigh from a car accident when I was a kid, because it stood out so much and everybody felt like it was perfectly okay to point it out and ask about it. I hate attention like that. But I'm at the point where I like it now. It's a comforting part of me. I also have a few other ones that aren't so noticeable but I just like for some reason.

I had a scar on my thumb from a pretzel that changed my thumbprint for a long time. I was so sad when ten or so years later it... wore away or something. It was like my thumb went and remodeled itself without my permission.
