I actually just watched this movie the other day, after watching that accent analysis video that praised Heath's Joker accent (and also his accent in Brokeback). I hadn't seen TDK in years, and I think it held up pretty well. I still don't like Christian Bale as Batman (or in anything), and thought Aaron Eckhart's CGI face looked silly, but for the most part the cast was perfect.

I was never in the fandom though, and now I'm curious: what were the main pairings? Was it a big fandom?

Also, there's a really great Bald Movies podcast discussion on this movie that I highly recommend.

It was a massive fandom and the main pairing was Joker/Batman, with an annoying sideline in Joker/Original Kewl Goth Girl, plus a good amount of Batman/Gordon. It didn't last that long, but a lot of the people in it stayed in Batman fandom more generally.

The fandom was one of the ones that were strong and overwhelmingly active, but it really didn't last long at all

I liked the movie but I was never into fandom for it, I know there was a lot of love for this incarnation of the Joker though but I never went looking even at a surface level to see what it was like.

This is one of those movies that I can say is a good movie, but I can rarely ever actually watch it. It is just too oppressively dark and depressing for me.

Movie fandoms rarely last very long, so I'm sorry your first fandom was one that wasn't meant to be around for a long time.

I have no opinion either way, but I always giggle when I see the term "batshit" in relation to Batman.
