Same. Everyone always touts it as the ideal friendship, but it would drive me crazy if I had one like theirs.

Ehhhhhh. I think most of the problems I see with it come from Leslie's character - especially her faults, both the ones that are exaggerated from comic effect, and also the ones that the show seems to largely pass over. But for me, once I've come to terms with that, it's quite nice.

Well then I guess you're not a poetic, noble land-mermaid.

ok

Hmm you know I never felt like it was a really deep friendship. It always felt like Leslie put a little more into it than Anne. It was more tell than show. Leslie would always talk about how much she liked Anne and how great she was, but you didn't really see them doing things best friends would do.

I think the point of Ann was that she could put up with Leslie (because for good or bad, Leslie was very intense and that could put off a lot of people) and was hesitant about their friendship at first, but eventually became fiercely loyal to Leslie and tended to know exactly what she needed.

Some of the lines did imply we didn't see everything they did together either, like when Ann decided to leave and Leslie talked about not having anyone to call for things that Ben has no opinion on.

To me, Ann seems nice and fairly normal but nothing amazing? And Leslie would be way too high maintenance IRL.

I think it's more... name other adult female friendships that gets as much attention that don't revolve entirely around sex/dating other people. They're held up because there's not exactly a big competition pool here. I'm trying to think of other strong female friendships in geek-appealing media and coming up dry. I mean theoretically Golden Girls and Sex and the City? But I never watched those. Star Wars movies? Nope, God forbid Leia or Rey or Jyn be on screen with other women, and when Rey and Leia hugged the internet lost it's mind that it didn't make sense.

Criminal Minds? I can think of one throwaway scene that the ladies of the BAU go shoe shopping together, because all wimmens like shoes, right?

Sherlock? Doctor Who? The MCU? (I think some of the DC TV shows might, I haven't seen them)

That said though, I frequently got really mad at Ann. When she lent one of Leslie's books to a boyfriend and then broke up with him without bothering to get it back for Leslie? Total dick move.
