This seems to be the way I ship Bob/Mohinder. And afterlife!Thompson/Chandra could be fun.

I guess... it always sucks when the shippers are convinced that their ship is going to become canon for real. That's just going to lead to frustration. Maybe that's also true for Mat/Mohinder. :(
(Sorry, I only know Mohinder-related ships... which exclude Peter... I have a one-track mind.)

The light-heartedness is half the appeal of slash for me. I've been in fandoms before where the shipwars just got plain nasty, and I don't want that viciousness in my happy fun time. Slash ships are less likely to become canon (except for certain fandoms, obviously), so slash is a nice safe place where nobody can really play games of one-up-man-ship - no pun intended.

And crack!ships like Peter/Sylar and Thompson/Chandra are great because when someone says But that's crazy talk! everyone in the ship replies AND? Did you have a point? instead of breaking out the meta and fighting over who is right.

This is true about slash... I guess! I've never actually been in a fandom before Heroes, and I have not really witnessed any shipping wars. Only from afar, and I've never understood the sense behind it...
Some people really destroy themselves a fun thing by demanding too much of the canon. :(

B-but... what about breaking out crack meta? :D Some of the crack pairings are funny because when you apply subtext-interpretation, they have more canon basis than some of the serious pairings.

Crack!meta is great fun. I was trying to refer more to the fact that most people in a crack!ship aren't taking it seriously, and that can upset people like the more rabid Harmonions and Rose-fen. So even if I break out the crack!meta against pushy Peter/Caitlin and Sylar/Maya fans, I'm essentially making fun of them for taking it seriously rather than them being so wrong!

I don't know about chemistry, actually! But if there are still people praying for it to become canon... as part of the minority who likes Maya, I really think she deserves better than the psychokiller, and it's highly unlikely that she'd want to be with the guy who used her and murdered her brother, even if he had any interest whatsoever in her romantically.

Hmmm.... :/ Shipping is hard.

I like Maya too (a lot more than cardboard cut-out!Caitlin, for sure begod and begorrah), but not with Sylar. As you said, he is a killer who murdered her brother. This is not the basis for a stable relationship. And I fear for anybody who thinks he is in twu wuv with her.

Yeah, Sylar's emotions and ideas of human interaction are probably different from ours, but no matter how you twist it, it probably cannot be called "twu luv". There was not any respect in how he treated her.

I think Sylar's fucked up ideas about human interaction are why I pair him off with Peter. A mind reader has a better chance of working out what he's thinking. Someone with spontaneous regeneration has a better chance of surviving any tiffs. And I think Peter stands the best chance of Sylar considering him as an equal.

Good question, really. I'm not sure how Sylar's brain works, and what he thinks about the people he meets. When it comes to Peter, there is not much to work with, nothing that lets me draw any conclusions. They never interacted much, and when they did, they just seemed to play out the hero/villain dynamic, which is relatively... shallow or simplistic, without either of them paying attention to any of the details of the other's personality of life.
Can't say I find their relationship particularly fascinating. XD

Personally I like seeing how writers fit them together, that's the fascination. As with everything, some do it badly (they're just fucking, Ok?), others make it more believable.
