Uncharted isn't a horror game at all, but the twist at the end of the first game led to a series of levels with a dark atmosphere and sense of dread that ALMOST made me put down the game because I was so freaked out. Only the fact that I had played and loved Uncharted 4 and the entire game leading up to that kept me going.

OMG The same thing happened to me. I played Uncharted 4 first and then I went back and played the others, and if I had played the first game initially I don't think I would have gotten into the series because I cannot deal with horror games at all.

Fuck those monsters. The instant they showed up I was like, "Let me guess, the next level you guys will leave me alone in a dark and scary place where tons of those things show up." And sure enough, that was the next level.

I had massive anxiety during that level, I almost couldn't finish the game I was just praying the level would be over every minute I was playing it.

Oh god, this happened to me too. D: I don't mind horror games, but only if I already know what I'm getting into!!

Resi 1-4.

I bought Revelations, 5 and 6, and loved them. the early ones still make me beshit my pants, tho. Tried playing the remastered version of 1, and now I need to hand in my man card because that first zombie still get's me.

I don't play many horror games just because I do scare really easily (and not in a fun way!), but Amnesia: The Dark Descent was one I did play that I finished because despite being constantly terrified, I still enjoyed it.

Does anyone remember Eternal Darkness for Nintendo Gamecube? That's one of the games I remember most fondly. I think it was my introduction to Lovecraftian horror, and I loved the effects of the sanity meter getting too low.

"This isn't...happening!"

I loved that game so much, I bought a GameCube after seeing a friend play it. And I know it's a jump scare, but every single time, the bathtub scene always freaked me out. I'd have to put down the controller and take a minute to collect myself.

The Resident Evil games would freak me out so much back in the day. All those zombies suddenly coming at you and I'd just flail around in a panic. Or when you had to explore down a dark halway and you knew that something was down there and it was going to jump out, but you had to go that way.

I won't say it scared me but I will say it left me largely unsettled - but Dark Tales - Edgar Allan Poe's Metzengerstein. (Yes, let's make an obscure Poe tale a subject of a game and give us some lovely Eye scream trope to close out the demo)

Zeldaaaa

Zelda as a whole is not a scary game series but sometimes they get to me, like the obvious one is the Redeads because fuck them for screaming at me and freezing me and then sucking the life out of me.

But in particular fuck Dead Hand from Ocarina of time and the fact that you need to let his creepy has hands catch you in order to force him to emerge. Why does child Link need to go down that creepy well? What is wrong with the people making this game series lol.

The Well was SO terrifying as a kid! Those cells and blood splatters on the wall. Ack! Shadow Temple was scary, too, but the Well almost felt scarier because you saw cute little Link in it, and he's not even a grownup D:

I read Redeads as redheads at first and I was very confused. But yes, the Redeads were terrifying.

When I was younger, the Redeads were fucking scary. I HATED THEM. And I hated going down in to that cave where you go the Sun Song because of those fuckers. To this day I still get a slight chill when I hear one...

The sun song is the best though because it freezes them, I agree going to the cave is scary but the motivation for getting the sun song is mainly that lol.

I also really love Majora's Mask and the fact that it has masks that make them dance, it made them considerably less scary.

Any time/game where I can't attack the redeads without letting them scream at me still sucks though.

The Tall Boys scared me in Dishonored (the first one, obviously). When I would hear their thunderous footsteps my entire body would just clench.

I was once playing on a server and was having a conversation in the chat while my character was sitting in a boat a good distance away from any land.

I turned around and four zombies had swum out to reach me. As weak as they are, it really startled me, and I was shocked that I was even within distance for them to hunt me down in the first place.

As a child I was legit scared of the cutscene in Banjo Kazooie that you got when you quit the game (I was brought up by my parents to exit to the title screen before turning off the system). I remember having nightmares about it and didn't play the game for years because I knew I couldn't beat it in one sitting and didn't want to see the cutscene.

Despite the janky controls and graphics, Clock Tower fucked with me for a long time. There was just something about that sound effect of the scissors, and the not knowing whether a hiding place was actually going to work or not...
